“Smart Value Retail” company needed a solution that would allow it effectively unite all aspects of its activity in the field of creating a chain of OLIV’E food stores from the very beginning, control business indicators and provide the further active expansion of “Smart Value Retail” on the market.

Customer

Smart Value Retail is a new project in opening a new branch of European format food-stores - “OLIV’E”, which has no analogues in Russia so far. This branch is unique – the first branch on the modern retail market that will be able to offer a combination of high-class service, comfort, innovations, high technical characteristics. The branch stores will be filled with different systems aimed at providing customers with the possibility to make more pleasant and convenient purchases: information display, extra “no cashier” cash desks, absence of security personnel.

In connection with the decision taken by Smart Value Retail to enter the market in short period of time, the following demands were figured out:

  • the offered business solution should meet the company intentions to in the field of creating a business process optimally;
  • the implementation period should not exceed 4-5 months;
  • the project should have a fixed budget;
  • a highly-qualified team should work on the project;
  • for the period of the project implementation the team remains unchanged.

Solution choice

“Accentis CIS” – the partner of “Smart Value Retail” in the project has considered different solutions and organized a tender among companies.

Out of serious ERP solutions SAP, Oracle and AlData/Gold solutions were considered. After the thorough consideration “Smart Value Retail” has chosen the new (issued in January 2008) package solution - SAP Business All-in-One Retail and the company which introduced the solution – “ALPE Consulting”. The following criteria have affected the choice:

  1. The mentioned SAP company has a rich experience of implementation and is a leader of software market for business. Its solutions are widely used for retail companies in Russia;
  2. The package solution - SAP Business All-in-One Retail package for retail is the solution that meets “Smart Value Retail” needs most fully, contains necessary for business functions and can be implemented in short terms.
  3. “ALPE Consulting” company most fully meets the demands for experience and qualification of specialists and can guarantee qualitative fulfilling of given tasks in accordance with the set budget.

The main advantage of SAP solution package is that after the installation a customer receives a working system straightaway. And that was why “ALPE Consulting” could guarantee shorter terms of implementation: there is no need to waste time to set the whole system. One can view and demonstrate all processes straightaway after loading the main data.

There is another important moment: installation of the preset solution can reduce the period of adjusting of the system to customers’ demands, because “gap” (the difference between the processed included in the package solution and the real processes) is pretty small – about 15-20 per cent. This, in its turn, makes it possible to make quite an accurate planning of the project budget from the very beginning.

Implementation

“ALPE Consulting” advisers together with SAP CIS have localized SAP Business All-in-One Retail package solution and “ALPE Consulting” became the first company in Russia, which has successfully implemented this solution for OLIV’E branch stores of “Smart Value Retail” company.

SAP solution implementation was performed in accordance with ASAP Focus methodology, which provides the consistent fulfilling of all project steps and active involvement of company staff into this work.

The advantage of SAP Focus methodology is as follows - it allows considerably decrease temporal and as a result financial expenses on SAP ERP implementation. High level of interest of administration in this project and well-coordinated work of the project team and advisers allowed the company use SAP solution functionality maximally and 5 months later - in 2008 start a new system with smaller expenses and without losses of quality.

“One on the most difficult tasks for “ALPE Consulting” implementation team was to integrate SAP solution with other systems and devices such as: WMS (inner warehousing system; warehousing services are provided by another organization), cash terminals from Wincor Nixdorf with the produced for the first time in Russia TP.NET, PDA (mobile terminals) interface with the system of electronic data exchange with suppliers – EDI etc. We understood that coping with such a huge number of interfaces in a short period of time is a very ambitious task.

  • the project budget did not increase the planned one;

Smart Value Retail has acquired the following:

  • standardized, duly organized business processes in accordance with modern demands;
  • the possibility to duplicate solutions to all branch stores;
  • assistance with making decisions due to fast and fully received information;
  • 30 preliminary trained company workers have started its work with the system, 70 more have to join us in the near future.
